A CHARITY golf day supported by local online gaming company Celton Manx is to be staged in the Isle of Man next month in support of the Bobby Moore cancer fund.
Celton Manx is the company behind SBOBET which currently sponsors West Ham United, where Bobby Moore was a player and captain when England won the World Cup in 1966.
The Bobby Moore Fund was established by his wife Stephanie in partnership with Cancer Research UK in memory of her late husband who died from bowel cancer, aged just 51.
Each year the fund raises over £2 million for the research and treatment of bowel cancer - the third most common cancer in the UK - and almost 100 people are diagnosed with the disease every day.
The golf day will held at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club on July 15 and is being organised by Island resident and friend of the Moore’s, Lars T Ugland.
He said, ‘I am very pleased to be working with Celton Manx again. The company has been a staunch supporter of the Bobby Moore Fund and I thank them for all the support they have given the charity.
“I used to be the Norwegian Football Association UK representative and got to know Bobby and even played against him a few times. Stephanie is such an inspirational person and the tireless fund raising of the Bobby Moore Fund achieves extraordinary results in the research and treatment of bowel cancer. Myself and the on-Island committee members are honoured to be able to contribute to this work.”
A number of celebrities will also be attending the golf day including Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi MBE and former England and Watford footballer, Luther Blissett. Stephanie Moore will also be playing.
Executive director of Celton Manx, Bill Mummery, said, “When I heard that Lars was organising a golf day and dinner to benefit the Bobby Moore Fund I jumped at the chance for Celton Manx to be involved. Our brand, SBOBET, is the official sponsor of West Ham United, and therefore our connections to the Bobby Moore Fund are obvious.”
Bobby Moore made 544 appearances for West Ham United between 1958 – 1974 and lifted the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup during his captaincy. He is a true legend of English football.
best known for captaining the World Cup winning England team in the 1966 final and being the only England captain to lift the famous Jules Rimet trophy.
Bill Mummery added, “The work carried out by Cancer Research UK and the Bobby Moore Fund is outstanding and we are proud to be supporting it once again at this event.”
The cost for a team entry is £1,000 for four and includes 18 holes of golf and an evening dinner. There is also the opportunity to bid for some money-can’t-buy auction prizes including a child’s mascot place and tickets to watch England at Wembley.
