'Drug would have helped man with cancer'

An MHK says he is disgusted after his plea for the Department of Health to fund a specialist drug for a Douglas man was rejected by Tynwald.

North Douglas member Bill Henderson challenged the department to pay for a cancer drug for David Cowin, one of his constituents, who is suffering from pancreatic cancer.

The drug is currently available on prescription in Scotland, but not in England.

A motion failed to find support among Tynwald members, who were told the drug was very costly and clinical advice suggested there was no guarantee it would prolong a patient's life for more than a few months.

Mt Henderson is insisting the drug would have extended Mr Cowin's life:
