BARCLAYS Wealth has given a “fantastic boost” to the Commonwealth Youth Games by recruiting 150 volunteers from its staff. Volunteer co-ordinator Victoria Karran said she was “delighted” by the news announced today.
Barclays Wealth is already a partner sponsor of the Games, has been busy recruiting staff as volunteers for the event and staged recruitment events which were held at the company’s three offices earlier this month.
“As a partner sponsor of the Games we want to do as much as possible to help the events run smoothly and successfully,” said Lawrence Looney, head of Global Banking Operations.
“With over 800 staff members in the Isle of Man, providing volunteers is one area we can clearly help with. It is fantastic that so many employees have volunteered to give up their time to help with the events. The Commonwealth Youth Games will be a landmark event in our Island’s history and something that we are keen for as many of our staff as possible to be involved with.’
Victoria Karran, the Volunteer Coordinator for the Organising Committee, said: ‘We are delighted that Barclays Wealth has really got behind our recruitment campaign.
“As part of this, we will receive 30 volunteers for each working day of the Games which is a fantastic boost to our numbers. Barclays Wealth has recognised the benefits these Games will have on the Isle of Man community and the great opportunity it provides for Barclays Wealth staff to be involved in the biggest multi-sporting event the island has ever hosted.”
The Games, taking place from 7-13 September, will be hosted at various sporting venues around Douglas staging rugby sevens, boxing, athletics, cycling, gymnastics, swimming and badminton for over 1,000 competitors from around the Commonwealth. Up to 1000 volunteers are needed in various roles over the five days.
