Girl Guides making their mark on Commonwealth Youth Games

by isleofman.com 22nd June 2011

GIRL guides in the Isle of Man will be able to work towards a special badge which celebrates the Commonwealth Youth Games.

To mark the fact the Isle of Man is hosting the event in September, Girlguiding Isle of Man has put together a unique Commonwealth Youth Games pack and challenge badge.

The challenge badge is open to all 1,300 local guiding members aged between five and 85 including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Section Members and Trefoil Guild.

Participants must select one challenge from each of the following sections – history, what to wear, food and drink, pick and mix and letters, number, pictures and photos – to complete the badge.

Sandy Kermode, the Island commissioner for Girlguiding Isle of Man, said: "I am very pleased that our Guiding groups will be participating in CYG2011 in this way allowing our girls and young women to learn about the commonwealth by participating in so many varied activities."

Information on the Commonwealth Youth Games challenge badge will also be sent to 17 Guiding counties across Girlguiding north-west England which collectively has more than 60,000 Guiding members.
