Bypass road for Peel "never planned"

by isleofman.com 21st June 2011

THERE are no plans for a ring road to be built around Peel, cutting through the playing fields at QE2 High School, Tynwald was told this morning.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne reassured today’s sitting, “There is no plan to slap a road through the playing fields of the QE2 school. There never has been.”

In response to a question from Onchan MHK Peter Karran, Mr Gawne’s short-but-sweet remarks ended the newspaper and radio speculation about the suggestion.

Seeking a promise that, if the idea was progressed, the matter would not go ahead without politicians being informed, Mr Karran was told, “Of course not. Even if it were proposed, it would clearly have to be approved by the House of Keys, Legislative Council and then Tynwald.”
