Morrissey confirmed for Villa gig

by isleofman.com 21st June 2011

IT has been confirmed that Morrissey will play at the Villa Marina in August.

The English singer and lyricist will play in the Royal Hall on Monday, August 1.

Morrissey began his musical career as the lead singer of The Smiths and wrote the classic albums The Queen is Dead and Meat is Murder with guitarist Johnny Marr.

After The Smiths split up Morrissey went on to have a successful solo career between 1988 and 1997 before taking a break from music. In 2002 he undertook a world tour and went on over the coming years to release a number of solo albums.

Music magazine NME has described the singer as "one of the most influential artists ever".

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "I know that this has been a highly anticipated announcement in recent weeks and I am delighted to be able to confirm that Morrissey will be coming to the Villa Marina.

"With an extensive line-up of live music at the Villa Marina and excellent shows at the Gaiety Theatre - and I am sure there will be even more to announce soon - this is a great summer of entertainment for the whole family at the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre."

Tickets for Morrissey cost £37 and can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01624 600555 or online at www.villagaiety.com. Tickets can also be booked at the Welcome Centre in the Sea Terminal, Douglas. Doors open at 7pm.
