Paddy's Fish of the Week - Whole Mackerel

by isleofman.com 21st June 2011

THIS week Paddy's has chosen whole mackerel as the Fish of the Week.

All about whole mackerel…

With its sparkling, silvery belly and iridescent blue-grey stripes the mackerel is an eye-catching fish - almost showy.

As its dark flesh has a distinctive flavour it is often accompanied by a sharp flavoured sauce.

Given the right treatment it is a fantastically moist, flavoursome fish that makes an inexpensive and very healthy meal.

Mackerel is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, selenium and vitamin B12.

To cook simply…

Mackerel is particularly oily which makes it ideal for frying and grilling or stuffing and baking.

Wash and dry then cook as you like. Why not try en papillote with the Paddy's seal and cook bags.

Mackerel goes especially well with a garlic and rosemary glaze or Cajun spices.

Until Sunday, June 26, whole mackerel will be £3.14 per lb. There will be a sampling session at the Paddy's counter in Shoprite, Victoria Road, Douglas on Saturday.
