A bid to reduce the number of commissioners in Onchan has failed.
Board member Brian Stowell, who successfully campaigned to have the membership reduced from ten to seven in 2008, proposed a further reduction to five.
He said the district was already well represented by three MHKs, and claimed fewer members would lead to greater efficiencies.
However, his attempts failed by five votes to two at the board meeting last night (Monday), with a number of members saying a further reduction in numbers was unnecessary.
