THE Isle of Man government’s policy on planning will come under the spotlight in Tynwald tomorrow when questions are asked by a number of politicians on various planning issues.
Dudley Butt MLC, David Cannan MHK and Peter Karran MHK are all asking questions on separate planning matters.
Mr Butt is questioning decisions made by Phil Gawne using his powers as Infrastructure Minister over a planning appeal. Mr Cannan will ask why there is a delay in progressing applications for self-build plots at St Patrick’s View in Jurby.
Mr Karran will ask questions about the reasons why a planning application can be rejected because of “defects” in the wording of the application and he will ask further questions, for written answer, about first-time and second-time buyer applications.
He wants to know how many first- and second-time buyer applications have been agreed or declined and is seeking an explanation of the wording “extant consent” which has been used by the Department of Infrastructure when dealing with recent planning matters.
The Tynwald questions come just before Mr Gawne makes a statement to the chamber on a "Review of the Planning System" and a further statement to follow immediately afterwards on high value individuals who are being encouraged to come to the Isle of Man for which it has been suggested they be given 'fast-track' planning.
