A NEW charter has been launched to help make Douglas a cleaner, safer and greener place to live.
The Douglas Charter has been created by the Douglas Community Safety Partnership (DCSP) to improve the quality of life for people who live, work or visit Douglas.
The partnership consists of members from Douglas Council, the Departments of Infrastructure, Community Culture and Leisure, Social Care, Education and Children and Environment, Food and Agriculture as well as the police and fire service.
Themes tackled under the charter include anti-social behaviour and vandalism, parking and transport, litter and street cleanliness and dog fouling and related issues.
Priorities will be driven by local information, intelligence and what local people say is important to them. However emphasis will be placed on creating and maintaining well lit areas where people feel safe, children can play and suffering caused by anti-social behaviour is dealt with.
Parks, gardens and open spaces will be kept attractive and inviting and other areas will be kept free from rubbish and abandoned vehicles.
The partnership approach is said to enable the sharing of expertise and/or resources on issues in order to challenge and resolve occurring problems. According to the DCSP this will provide better value for money and more solutions than a single agency could muster.
Copies of the Douglas Charter are available online by visiting www.douglas.gov.im or from the public counter at Douglas Town Hall.
