A FILM partly produced in the Isle of Man will be shown in Peel to mark the end of the Films in Peel season.
Chico and Rita will be screened for the first time in the Island on a big screen on Saturday, June 25, at the Peel Centenary Centre.
The animated film is set in 1940s Cuba and New York and tells the story of a young piano player called Chico with a big dreams and Rita a beautiful singer. The two are united by romantic desire but their journey is filled with torment.
Mark Kermode a BBC film critic, in his column for The Observer, said: "This wonderfully seductive musical odyssey oozes tactile pleasure. Its hand-drawn 2D visuals boast more depth and heart than any 3D CGI offering."
The film was coloured by Manx artists and illustrators. Artist Juan Moore will give a short introduction to the film and there will be post show drinks.
Doors for Chico and Rita (cert 15) will open at 7.15pm. The film starts at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £4 or £3 for concessions and are available from Celtic Gold in Peel or on the door. Tickets which guarantee a seat but still require payment on the door can be collected from Mostly Manx in Douglas, Shakti Man in Ramsey and Thompson Travel in Port Erin.
