OFT decision on Pinewood deal

by isleofman.com 20th June 2011

Today (Monday) is a red letter day for a United Kingdom Office of Fair Trading investigation into a Manx firm's move to buy the historic Pinewood Shepperton studio complex.

Peel Group wants to buy the complex, home to the James Bond and Harry Potter movies, for around ?96 million.

But the OFT is looking into whether the firm, which also owns MediaCityUK in Manchester, would lessen competition through the deal.

An OFT spokesman described the probe as a standard merger investigation and said it would examine 'whether the deal may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition'.

The OFT will make a decision today.
