'Treat more patients locally' says candidate

A general election candidate has been outlining some of the ways he could see the Manx government makings savings, to ensure it continues to operate services at their present levels.

Peel commissioner Rodger Gimbert believes close cooperation between unions and senior officials could lead to further efficiencies, without the need for compulsory redundancies.

Mr Gimbert, who will contest the town's single seat for the second time in September, believes the bill for prescription drugs could be reduced, and more of the people who are sent to the United Kingdom for treatment could be dealt with locally.

He says patients would have more emotional support if they stayed on the Island, and bills could be significantly reduced:
