The chairman of the Douglas Regeneration Committee, David Cretney MHK, is welcoming the imminent start of work on a major facelift for the town.
The run down state of the Island's capital has been a source of irritation for some time and, in his address to the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce at Thursday's AGM, president Nick Veradi called on government to enable the work to begin.
The ?5.5 million programme of improvements had been due to start in Nelson Street last week, but was put on hold because the Manx Treasury hadn't signed off funds for the project.
Mr Cretney says the work will be a 'test run' before contractors move onto the main shopping area of Strand Street, Duke Street and Castle Street:
