by isleofman.com 17th June 2011

SIR Elton John performed to over 8,000 fans in Douglas last night – marking the singers first ever performance in the Isle of Man.

Crowds of fans gathered to see the superstar perform a catalogue of hits including Crocodile Rock, Your Song and Candle in the Wind.

One woman had travelled from Jersey to the venue in Noble's Park to celebrate her 100th Elton John gig.

After playing for over two hours Elton returned to the stage to sign tickets, concert programmes and even a Manx flag before launching into the encore of Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Circle of Life.

Before the concert Marshall Arts Ltd, the promoters of the concert, played a message on the big screens for fans.

It read: "The lengths to which we have gone to make sure the show went ahead have been well documented in the media over the last month.

"However after many hours of hard work and additional investment we are delighted that Elton John will take to the stage.

"Finally and most importantly we would like to thank you the fans without whom we would not be here."
