Island schools won't be affected by UK strike

Teachers in a number of unions in the United Kingdom are preparing for strike action later this month, but their colleagues on the Island won't be taking part.

The National Union of Teachers and Association of Teachers and Lecturers have already declared a day of action on June 30, in a row over working hours and changes to pension plans.

A third union, the National Association of Head Teachers, is meeting today (Friday) to discuss whether to ballot its members over industrial action.

The action would cause disruption to millions of children at thousands of schools in the UK, but ATL representative on the Island Andrew Shipley says the Island won't be affected:
