THE Positive Action Group in the Isle of Man have organised a bluffer's guide to parliament event next week to help people understand how the Manx one operates.
The local political lobbyists have arranged a meeting called How Our Parliament Works – A Bluffer's Guide for Monday, June 20.
At the meeting the structure of parliament will be explained and the internal and external influences on law making will be examined. The judiciary and its relationship with parliament will also be explored.
Roger Tomlinson, the chair of the group, said: "Feedback from our monthly public meetings revealed that many people wanted to know more about the structure of our parliament and how it works.
"There is also a perception that Westminster unduly influences our law making. Civil liberties campaigner Tristram Llewellyn Jones has been monitoring this and will present his own take on this aspect of the parliamentary process.
"The influence and relationship of politicians with the judiciary has drawn public criticism recently and we are fortunate in having a former partner in advocates Corlett Bolton, Clare Faulds, to comment. With her recent experience as senior magistrate and HM Coroner at Falkland Islands Government, Clare is able to provide a broad perspective on this perceived problem."
How Our Parliament Works – A Bluffer's Guide will take place on Monday, June 20 at 7.30pm at Ramsey Town Hall. Admission is free and all are welcome.
