by isleofman.com 16th June 2011

A 12 YEAR old student from Ballakermeen High School has become a European golf champion.

Herman Loubser beat off stiff opposition from 43 countries over three rounds of the famous Gullan course in Scotland in the US Kids Golf European Championship.

He finished one stroke ahead of a pursuing group maintaining the lead he held from the first round.

Herman normally benefits from a handicap of four strokes but in this competition all the golfers played from scratch.

Herman has been playing golf since the age of seven and is a regular at the Peel and Mount Murray courses.

He has competed locally with success for the last three years but has his sights set on being a professional golfer with an ultimate ambition of competing in the US Masters at Augusta, Georgia.
