THE Isle of Man Post Office is appealing for old photographs of Ramsey and its postal service for a special event to mark the relocation of the town's post office.
Ramsey Post Office is moving from its existing premises in Court Row to the Old Courthouse building in Parliament Street at the end of July.
To celebrate this move the post office is trying to collect old photographs, newspaper clippings and any other interesting postal related memorabilia.
Anyone who would like to share their items is invited to an afternoon event which will take place between 4pm and 7pm on Wednesday, June 29 at Ramsey Town Hall. Staff from the post office will be on hand to scan photographs and clippings so that a display can be created. Light refreshments will also be served.
Lucy Webster-Thompson, PR and communications manager for Isle of Man Post Office, said: "We hope this will be a great community event where we will be able to gather copies of a wide selection of photographs, clippings etc while being an opportunity to reminisce about how the town used to be.
"I encourage everyone to dig out any images/material in keeping with our display theme. I'm sure there are some cracking photos out there which will bring to life what role the post office played in the town many years ago."
Isle of Man Post Office has also teamed up with the Ramsey Regeneration Committee so that residents can view regeneration plans for the town at the same time as sharing their memorabilia.
Linda McCauley, regeneration manager, said: "Old Post Office Lane is the first part of the regeneration of Ramsey. It links the Quayside to Parliament Street opposite the new Courthouse Post Office.
"The Ramsey Regeneration Committee is working with the post office and local property owners to introduce public art into the lane. The theme for the public art is the post and some of the photographs and stories of postmen (and women!) may be just what we want to bring new life into the lane."
