EMINENT scientist Dr John Lennox will visit the Isle of Man in July to address the question Has Science Buried God?
His visit is part of a series of events held by a group of Christian men who meet for breakfast, several times a year on a Saturday morning, and enjoy a related talk by a local and sometimes visiting speaker.
Once a year the event is opened to all men and women across the Island and a high calibre guest speaker is invited. Last year the group were addressed by General Sir Richard Dannatt (now Lord Dannatt) who drew a crowd of 200 to the Palace Hotel for breakfast.
This years event will take place on Saturday, July 2, and is expected to be equally as popular so early booking is advised as essential.
Doctor John Lennox will address the subject Has Science Buried God? at the event and it is no secret that he argues that far from damaging faith in God, science absolutely endorses it.
John Lennox is a Doctor of Science, a Doctor of Philosophy, a Master of Arts in Bioethics, a Professor of Mathematics at Oxford, an Oxford Fellow in Mathematics and in the Philosophy of Science.
As an acclaimed scientist he is invited around the world to challenge the views expressed by such men as the atheist Richard Dawkins and the agnostic Stephen Hawking who claim that Christianity has been discounted by science.
Dr Lennox argues that the very reverse is true and that science endorses and enhances belief in God as creator and supreme architect. He has written two books God's Undertaker and God and Stephen Hawking, whose design is it anyway?
While on the Island Doctor Lennox will also address 170 sixth form students on Monday, July 4 and will also attend Tynwald Day on Tuesday, July 5.
The breakfast event at the Palace Hotel takes place on Saturday, July 2 between 7.30am and 9am. To register, which is advised, e-mail david.holmes@manx.net or telephone 01624 632238 or 01624 861721. The event costs £12 which includes a full Manx breakfast and is payable at the door.
