THE chief executive of the Dignity in Dying organisation will visit the Island next week for a public meeting on assisted dying.
Sarah Wootton will argue that a change in the law to allow terminally ill adults the choice of assisted dying would better protect people in the Isle of Man.
During her visit Sarah will also speak to MHKs and will attend a closed meeting for members and supporters of the organisation.
Sarah said: "I am delighted to have this opportunity to debate the issues on the Isle of Man.
"Dignity in Dying has many supporters in the Isle of Man and we in turn will offer our support to a Private Members Bill which would allow the choice of assisted dying to terminally ill mentally competent adults, should a Member of the House of Keys choose to bring one in the new parliament.
"There will be people with understandable concerns about changing the law and I do hope they too will come to the meeting so that I and my colleagues can discuss those concerns.
"Too many people are suffering unbearably and against their wishes at the end of their lives and the Isle of Man, which has a history of introducing progressive social legislation, could lead the way with a compassionate law to address this."
The Dignity in Dying public meeting will be held at the Manx Legion Club in Douglas at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 22.
