THE former volunteer chair of Isle of Man Crimestoppers has been appointed as the deputy chair of the UK Crimestoppers National Advisory Board.
Phil O'Shea held the Island position for three years before becoming the regional volunteer chair for the North West of England.
This role saw him co-ordinate efforts and share best practice across six areas of the North West including the Isle of Man.
His new role will see him represent the interests of Crimestoppers volunteers across the UK on the Advisory Board which consists of the charity's trustees, the executive management team and regional volunteer representatives.
Phil said: "I am delighted to have been offered this new role at the heart of the UK wide charity.
"Crimestoppers relies upon its supporters to raise funds and to organise awareness campaigns and initiatives. Having been a volunteer for Crimestoppers for nearly 10 years this is an exciting new challenge.
"I will be able to utilise many of my business skills to ensure that each regional committee is led by energetic and enthusiastic chairs. It is vital the committees have sufficient volunteers with a broad range of skills to deliver their core objectives and that all activities are directed to making the public more aware of the role of Crimestoppers and encouraging people to report crimes anonymously."
Stuart McCudden the current chair of Isle of Man Crimestoppers said: "I feel proud that a representative from the Isle of Man has been selected to fulfil this influential new role.
"Recently we held a successful launch of the new youth brand for Crimestoppers called Fearless and we continue to see a rising volume of information despite an overall decline in underlying volumes of crime.
"This demonstrates the pro-activity of our volunteers and I am delighted Phil has been recognised for his efforts in support of the charity at a national level."
Isle of Man Crimestoppers is looking for a new volunteer chair to succeed Stuart McCudden who will shortly be standing down after his three years in post. For more information email stuart.mccudden@im.g4s.com or call 07624 247777.
