'Minister couldn't answer questions on bill'

The chairman of a committee which examined a criminal justice bill has criticised Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw's lack of knowledge about it.

East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw presented the committee's report to the House of Keys yesterday (Tuesday) but saw its recommendations defeated in a vote.

Afterwards, he said he was disappointed Mr Earnshaw hadn't been able to answer questions about the new powers the laws would have given the police.

He also said he was surprised when nobody at the department seemed able to deal with specific queries:
