Police warn motorists to expect and accept delays

by isleofman.com 8th June 2011

MOTORISTS have been warned that delays are inevitable in Douglas later today.

The TT course has now been closed for today's racing which is expected to continue into the afternoon and possibly the early evening.

Police say it is likely that traffic volumes in the town centre and the arterial routes out of town will be extremely high during the late afternoon rush hour period.

Inspector Phil Shimmin, head of the Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The police will do everything possible to ease the situation for motorists but people also have to accept that there will inevitably be delays due to the high volumes of traffic and limited routes out of Douglas.

"I will reiterate the advice given earlier in the week which is to avoid the traditional rush hour and either leave work earlier or later than usual if possible. Car sharing or using public transport will also reduce the number of vehicles on the roads."

A number of police officers will be deployed around the town to assist in traffic management. At this time it cannot be confirmed if crossing points will be in operation during the busy period.

Updates will be provided on the police Facebook and Twitter pages. Information about road closures can also be obtained by calling 01624 685888.
