THE chairman of the UK Information and Records Management Society will visit the Island next week.
Matthew Stephenson, who is also head of information governance at the University of Salford, will address the public and private sectors focussing on the challenges of compliance and managing information as an asset.
He will speak at a free event held at the Manx Museum on Friday, June 17, which is being hosted by the Isle of Man Government's Transforming Government Programme and the local section of the Information and Records Management Society.
Matthew said: "My basic premise is that while the likelihood of something bad happening is relatively low the impact is high and therefore the risk is significant.
"Information is an asset and its management is relatively cheap offering an almost instant return on investment. Consequently good information and records management ticks all the boxes and is an integral part of any operation - not a costly add on."
Meic Pierce Owen, information manager for the Transforming Government Programme, said: "This is an important theme and Matt is a leading light in this area. He has also been keen to fulfil a promise to visit since the snow scuppered his first, and indeed second, attempts last winter."
The event will start at 2.30pm. Anyone with an interest in information and records management is welcome to attend. For more details contact Meic on 07624 463809 or e-mail meic.pierceowen@cso.gov.im.
