Amazement at boat crews' lack of regard for safety

Boat owners in the Isle of Man are being urged to set off prepared for an emergency, even in ideal weather conditions.

Peel's lifeboat crew rescued a pleasure craft south of the town late on Friday evening, after it ran out of fuel.

The two people on board had no safety gear or radio to call for help. The alarm was raised by the crew of another boat, who had been on the same round trip to the Calf of Man.

The lifeboat only had a vague description of the stricken boat's location and eventually found it near cliffs at Glen Maye.

Spokesman for the Peel RNLI Malcolm Kelly says it was a potentially very dangerous situation:
