Committee 'pushing forward' town improvements

by isleofman.com 7th June 2011

Work on the first phase of Ramsey's regeneration begins in the Lanes off Parliament Street next week.

The town's regeneration committee has announced Island Drainage and Groundwork as the contractor, and they will start the upgrade in Old Post Office Lane on Monday, June 16 laying new, more attractive street surfaces.

The aim is to create bright, smart and inviting throughways to the town, which will also offer an artistic interpretation of their history.

Meanwhile, planning applications for the regeneration of the Courthouse and Market Place have been submitted. Those improvements aim to make the squares welcoming places for people to meet, with space for events and performances.

The plans build on views given in last year's public consultation, with the overall aim of bringing new life to the heart of the town.

Chairman of the regeneration committee Ramsey MHK Allan Bell says they are pushing the changes forward so residents and visitors will quickly see improvements in the town.
