Fire warning issued on Twitter for first time

by isleofman.com 6th June 2011

Some Douglas residents were warned to stay indoors last night (Sunday) during a fire at a waste processing facility.

The blaze, on the Snugborough Trading Estate, was spotted shortly after 5pm, and fire crews spent three and a half hours at the scene.

Nearby residents were advised to stay inside and keep their windows closed because of the large amount of smoke being given off by the blaze.

A spokesman for the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service said it was the first time crews had used Twitter to issue such a warning.
