THE Youth Arts Centre in Douglas will be hosting auditions for the rock opera Rent later this month.
They will be held on Sunday, June 12 and Sunday, June 19 and musical director Nicholas J Roberts and head of youth arts Fiona Helleur will be in attendance.
The musical will be staged in September.
Based on Puccini's La Boheme, it tells the story of a year in the life of a group of young bohemians struggling in modern day East Village, New York.
The story centres around roommates Mark and Roger and their friends and relatives.
While a tragedy has made Roger numb to life, Mark tries to capture it through his attempts to make a film.
In the year that follows the group deals with love, loss, Aids, and modern-day life in a powerful story that shows how much changes or doesn't change in the 525,600 minutes that make up a year.
Fiona said: "We are looking for singers aged 16 to 25 who would like to take part in this ground-breaking production.
"The show will be produced, directed and performed by some of the best young talent on the Island in front of and behind the curtain, including direction, sound and lights, set design, music, choreography as well as the singing and acting.
"We have a cornucopia of talent available on the Island and this is a very edgy show, covering sensitive issues that concern young people including sexuality and STIs, echoing the bohemian lifestyle of young people seeking their way in life."
Nicholas said: "The music is demanding but well within the capabilities of the young people of the Island.
"We intend to produce this show from start to performance in 12 days, a total of 17,280 minutes, a far cry from 525,600 minutes, which will be challenging but will result in a vibrant and fresh show that will provide a wealth of experience for those interested in pursuing a professional career in performing arts."
