TICKETS are still available for the Charley Boorman Live show at The Gaiety Theatre tomorrow (Friday).
Described as an adventurer, travel writer and actor Charley is the star of the hit TV shows Long Way Down, Long Way Round and By Any Means.
The live show will see Charley share his personal memories from travelling across with world with his close friend actor Ewan McGregor and will show video clips of their adventures.
Speaking to isleofman.com reporter Tessa Hawley, Charley said the show will start at the beginning. He explained: "It's basically about where I have come from - where it started.
"My father is a film director (he directed films including Excalibur, Deliverance, and Hope and Glory) and I was always being thrown into those movies as a kid as cheap labour! From then on I started making movies and I met Ewan and it's kind of the stories of how it all happened .
"I'll discuss things that never made the TV show or book and there are lots of video clips to back that up. It's an evening with Charley – it's not particularly serious!"
Talking about being described as an adventurer Charley said: "I can never see myself as an adventurer. I just thought 'two mates going around the world on a motorbike'."
Recalling a particularly poignant memory from the Long Way Round trip in 2004, where Charley and Ewan rode motorcycles from London to New York via Europe and Asia, Charley continued: "I think the first time I realised we were on an adventure was when we were in Mongolia on the first trip Long Way Round.
"We had these two support vehicles following us but only sort of loosely following us. We'd spend two or three days on our own and then we'd hook up with them for a night or so and then we'd go on. They'd keep about half a day behind.
"Then they crashed and one of their cars rolled two or three times. We'd happened to ring them on the satellite phone and they said that there had been this terrible crash. I suddenly realised that in order to get to them it would take a whole day.
"I realised it wasn't just a fun bike holiday. It was at that point I stopped popping wheelies and thought 'I've got to make sure I get myself through this'. There were no helicopters, air ambulances, hospitals – nothing. You suddenly realise 'ok this is serious'."
Charley will be joined on stage by Richard de Aragues the director of the film TT3D: Closer to the Edge. Fans will also have the opportunity to ask both men questions in a question and answer style session.
