A CHARITY golf day in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK will take place in the Island next month.
Bobby, the captain of the 1966 England World Cup winning team, died in February 1993 from bowel cancer at the age of 51.
The event, at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club, Santon, on Friday, July 15, will be attended by gold medallist Kriss Akabusi, former England and Watford footballer Luther Blissett and Bobby's widow Stephanie Moore.
Isle of Man resident and personal friend of Bobby and Stephanie's Lars T Ugland put together a committee tasked with holding the celebrity golf day and a dinner in memory of the England legend.
Lars said: "I used to know Bobby and played against him a few times. I have a photo of the two of us.
"I used to be the Norwegian Football Association UK representative.
"I often asked Bobby to speak at functions or just meet football people, particularly from Norway.
"He was always positive. I had no idea he was dying of bowel cancer. He told nobody and I only knew the week before he died.
"I met Stephanie after Bobby died when she first started the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
"I was and still am so impressed with what she has achieved over these years.
"She raises some £2m a year for the fund.
"This money goes directly to cancer research and the results obtained are extraordinary.
"No one deserves more support than Stephanie and the Bobby Moore cancer fund in my opinion.
"She is an extraordinary person and I feel privileged to be able to call her my friend."
The cost for a team entry is £1,000 for four and includes the 18 holes of golf and dinner and other benefits.
