THE Department of Infrastructure has confirmed it has "no intension whatsoever" of building a multi-storey car park at Fenella Beach in Peel.
It has responded after comments made by Peel Commissioners and a report in this week's Isle of Man Examiner headlined "Car park plan shock – multi-storey for Fenella suggested".
Peel MHK Tim Crookall, who is political Member for the department with responsibility for properties, said: "The department has no intention whatsoever of building a multi-storey car park at Fenella Beach or the Creg Malin car park.
"This was one of two options identified in a feasibility study carried out by a UK Kit Car Park Company to identify where an additional level of car parking could technically be constructed on an existing car park using a kit construction.
"Based on the report the layout of the other existing car parks in Peel is such that they are unsuitable for this type of development."
A working group tasked by Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK to look at parking issues, and which is led by Tim Crookall MHK, will continue to examine options for Peel as part of its wider remit of looking at Island wide parking issues.
