Disruption and delay to post services over TT

by isleofman.com 31st May 2011

RESIDENTS should expect "disruption and possible delay" to the postal service over the TT period.

The Isle of Man Post Office has announced some operational changes to the delivery and collection of mail.

In a statement released today (Tuesday) by the Post Office it said: "As a result of a substantial increase in the volume and speed of traffic on the Island's roads during the TT Races customers can expect traffic volumes to cause some disruption and possible delay to normal delivery and collection times.

"On days involving road closures this will seriously affect deliveries to addresses on the course or where access is only available via the course. We will deliver where we are able to but some addresses may not be accessible and will have their mail delivered to them the next available day.

"Normal delivery times may vary. Collections may be affected especially in rural areas. Final collection times in the town areas may also vary.

"On non-race days there will be a complete delivery of mail but please note there may be some delays as deliveries will include mail from the previous day for premises affected by the closure of the TT course."

Postal staff will wear high visibility jackets during their deliveries in TT fortnight so that they can clearly be seen on the road and motorists have been asked to take extra care.

During the TT period any customers or businesses that are located on the course or are affected by road closures can collect their mail from their local sorting office or have their mail delivered to another address.

Anyone wishing to make alternative arrangements for delivery should telephone their local sorting office – Ramsey 01624 816735, Douglas 01624 698508, Peel 01624 844590 or southern 01624 823332.

All post offices will be open as usual during TT week and Senior Race Day with the exception of those offices located on the TT course which will be open before and after race sessions where applicable.
