Text alert service for TT entertainment

by isleofman.com 3rd June 2011

A NEW text alert service has been launched by Manx Telecom to keep customers updated about which bands are playing during TT.

Customers who want news about the bands playing at the Bushy's Tent on Douglas Promenade and on the stage outside the Bay Hotel in Port Erin during TT can register for the service now.

Residents should text TTGIGS to 166366 and visitors should text TT GIGS to +447624166366 to receive updates.

Manx Telecom is sponsoring the stage at Bushy's Tent this year and has also provided Bushy's with an online SMS service which allows text messages to be sent out in bulk from any PC, laptop or mobile.

People will be charged in the normal way for sending a text to sign up for the text alert service. After that there is no charge for receiving the information text messages.

However visitors to the Island may incur roaming charges and in addition to any charge for sending a text to sign up for the service they may also be charged by their network operator for receiving texts.

A spokesperson for Manx Telecom said: "We encourage everyone who thinks that they could possibly incur roaming charges when on the Island to visit their network provider’s website to check out both call charges and ways to minimise charges when roaming. Manx Telecom also has a guide to roaming on its website which gives general advice and which we encourage everyone to read."
