IT’S A CASE of fingers crossed for the Manx weather on Monday evening when the first TT practice is scheduled for a 6.00pm roads closure.
The official forecast from the Isle of Man Met Office says there is the “risk of showers” with “perhaps some rain and hill fog” - so it’s a case of typical Manx weather as far as the TT in concerned.
TT practices are almost always disrupted by the weather every year and with showers and hill fog on the radar for the long-term forecasts then it looks like TT2011 will be no different.
The Isle of Man Met Office doesn’t provide long range weather forecasts further ahead than five days; however, the UK Met Office 15-day forecast suggests that TT Week will be much better with warm sunshine and clear skies forecast for most of the country.
There is one word of warning, however. “There is a small chance that more generally unsettled conditions may return from the west.”
Solo TT practice sessions are scheduled from 18.20 to 19.55 and sidecar sessions from 20.00 to 20.50 each day. Practices run through to next Friday, June 3. The first race is the 6-lap Dainese Superbike TT on Saturday May 4.
The Mountain Road from Ramsey Hairpin to the Creg-ny-Baa will close one hour before the rest of the TT course for practice sessions and 30 minutes before the rest of the TT course for races. It will remain closed after the completion of practices and races for up to one hour after the rest of the TT course.
TT practice sessions will be held from Monday May 30 to Friday June 3 at 6pm each evening, ending no later than 9.30pm. The Mountain Road from Ramsey Hairpin to the Creg-ny-Baa will close at 5pm on each of these days and re-open up to one hour after the rest of the course (no later than 10.30pm).
