Island beaches' water quality criticised

Several Manx beaches have again failed to meet legal bathing water quality standards because of raw sewage being let out into the sea.

That's according to the Department of the Environment.

Peel, Laxey and Gansey Bay were among those not reaching the acceptable European grade in the Marine Conservation Society's annual report out today (Thursday).

Only Derbyhaven Beach is recommended for swimming in the organisation's 2011 Good Beach Guide with 12 others around the Island gaining a basic pass.
