THE FIRST meeting of the Isle of Man Association of Charity Treasurers will be staged on June 13 with an open invitation to IOMSCA and CASSEV members.
The meeting has been arranged in the light of a recent survey undertaken by the Association which showed that two thirds of members who responded underwent a formal audit, irrespective of their size, and that 86% were audited by chartered accountants.
Of those surveyed, 57% revealed that they would go to their auditor for advice and guidance on financial matters. Despite this, just over a quarter of charities responding had legal or financial expertise on their boards.
Juan Watterson, of the Association, added, “In addition to networking with charities and the charity regulator, we have identified a work stream of improving the quality of charity accounting through the improvement of the SORP and sharing of best practice, and improving governance.
“These may be areas of interest to either the technical side or to auditors of charities. Equally, CASSEV members may be looking to expand their CV through charitable involvement and may find something of interest.”
The meeting will be held in the Wedding Room, General Registry, Deemsters’ Walk, Douglas at 7pm on June 13. It is an open event, and Mr watterson has asked that members of the Association promote the evening to students and anyone else who may be interested in the work of the Association of Charity Treasurers on the Isle of Man.
