by isleofman.com 25th May 2011

RAMSEY Town Band's entry into the National Brass Band Championships has been boosted thanks to a £1,000 donation from Boston Group's Charitable Foundation.

The band needs to raise £8,000 to send 28 members to the UK national finals of the competition which is being held on September 24.

Ramsey Town Band secured a place in the final by coming third out of 24 entries in the north-west regional heat.

Jill Allen, on behalf of the Boston Charitable Foundation, said: "Ramsey Town Band has done brilliantly to qualify for the finals in September and we're delighted to be able to help them get there. This is a wonderful opportunity for all members of the band – let's hope they can bring home the trophy."

Viv Quane, chairperson for Ramsey Town Band, said: "We are hugely grateful for this financial support which helps us a great deal in meeting our fundraising target. We have a dedicated group of committee members and players but we also rely on the extremely supportive local community."
