AMATEUR sleuths will be able to demonstrate their powers of detection at a Victorian murder mystery evening organised by the Henry Bloom Noble Library.

Budding detectives will have the chance to solve the case of Who Killed George Hargrave? which has been written by award-winning crime novelist, and host for the evening, Martin Edwards.

Local actors will play the suspects and the audience will listen to their testimonies before deciding the identity of the murderer, the weapon and the motive.

Martin, who will also take part in a question and answer session with Bob Harrison from Manx Radio, said: "The event has been staged very successfully in venues across the UK and I'm absolutely delighted to have been asked to bring it to the Isle of Man."

Jan Macartney, a librarian at Henry Bloom Noble Library, said: "Martin's not only the critically acclaimed author of the Lake District Mysteries and the Harry Devlin Mysteries, set in Merseyside, but also a very entertaining speaker so I'm sure we'll be in for a great evening."

Who Killed George Hargrave will take place in the community room at Noble's Park Pavilion at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 25. Tickets cost £5 per person and are available in advance from The Henry Bloom Noble Library, Victoria Street, Douglas and the Lexicon Bookshop in Strand Street.

Wine and snacks are included in the ticket price and there will be prizes for the winners.

Martin, who is also the author of a number of non-fiction books, will be signing copies of his books which will be available to purchase on the evening.
