Board chairman declares in Onchan

by isleofman.com 24th May 2011

Chair of Onchan Commissioners June Kelly is to stand in September's House of Keys general election.

Manx-born Mrs Kelly has lived in the Birch Hill area of Onchan for the past 30 years.

She works as a Health Visitor and is also chairman of the Onchan Live at Home scheme and a lifelong member of the Salvation Army.

Mrs Kelly says if elected she would encourage the Keys to prioritise the needs of the local population, while sustaining the Island's business sector and international standing.

In her address to voters, Mrs Kelly says international pressure has led the Keys to focus on replacing lost revenue, rather than looking at overall spending. She is calling for a closer look at what she describes as 'unnecessary' schemes.

Mrs Kelly promises to be a voice of the people of Onchan, where she is elected to the Keys or not.

Two other people have so far indicated their intention to stand in the three-seat constituency, namely sitting member David Quirk and commissioner Brian Stowell.

The other sitting members are Adrian Earnshaw and Peter Karran.
