Seafood extravaganza for this year's Queenie Festival

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2011

A SEAFOOD extravaganza - which will consist of fine dining and live music – will take place to mark the annual Queenie Festival in July.

On Saturday, July 2, Port St Mary's quayside will be transformed with a grand marquee where diners will be able to enjoy a delicious seafood buffet prepared by acclaimed chefs and music from local ska band Buncha Skankers.

Top of the menu will be the Manx Queenie – which recently won a Marine Stewardship Council certificate in recognition of good management and sustainability. The accreditation followed a 21-month assessment which showed the Island's commitment to protecting queen scallops stocks for the future.

In celebration of this local delicacy the Queenie Festival organisers have invited Simon Wadham the head chef at London's Rivington restaurant and Henrietta Green a judge from the ITV cookery programme Taste the Nation to help prepare the food.

These food connoisseurs will also be giving cookery demonstrations in the quayside food theatre over the weekend.

Guests will also receive a complimentary glass of champagne and a selection of canapés on arrival. This will be followed by the seafood buffet, dessert and cheeseboard. Buncha Skankas will then take to the stage for a set of non-stop ska and reggae classics.

The dress code for the evening is black and white smart-casual. A list of hand picked wines will be available and there will be a bar throughout the night.

Tickets for the event which starts at 7pm on Saturday, July 2, cost £30 per person. Seating will be on tables of 10 and corporate tables can be arranged. Places are limited and are on a first come first served basis.
