by isleofman.com 23rd May 2011

A century by Chris Hawke took St John’s to the top of the Standard Bank Premiership on Sunday.

The Saints beat Crosby, while previous leaders Ramsey lost at Cronkbourne.

Hawke hit a splendid 101, which included ten fours and one six.

He shared an opening stand of 175 with Pete Lewis who cracked 70.

St John’s were dismissed for 242, but Crosby were soon reeling at three for three.

Jack Rowlands came to the rescue with a robust 64.

However, it was not enough to save the Marown side who ended on 136 all out.

Hawke crowned a fine game with bowling figures of four for 23.

Ramsey made 139 at Tromode. In-form skipper Ollie Webster hit 48, while Alex Stokoe took five for 34.

Gareth Dawson led the Cronkbourne reply with a bright 53 as the Douglas side reached their target for the loss of six wickets.

In a match reduced to 64 overs by the rain, Valkyres recorded 132 for seven against Castletown.

Shazeb Raja top scored with 32.

Town cruised to victory by nine wickets, thanks to 66 not out from Travis Friend and 47 from Wicus Wessels.
