Eight-day celebration of ancient chapels

The 2011 Praying the Keeills Week begins this morning (Saturday), with a launch service at Ballagarey Methodist Chapel in St Mark's.

That is due to be followed by a nine-mile circular walk, taking in Cabbal Dreem Ruy, a keeill near the Cringle reservoir.

From tomorrow, there will be seven more days of walks, talks and music, celebrating the Isle of Man's 35 remaining keeills, or ancient chapels, all of which are over 1,000 years old.

The event is in its sixth year, and one of the organisers, Phil Craine, says it's a fascinating subject:
