Local vet to walk over 400 miles for charity

by isleofman.com 21st May 2011

A SENIOR vet from Arg Beiyn Veterinary Practice will walk around 420 miles to raise money for two charities.

Edric Cross will walk for 21 days, from July 9 to 29, along part of the GR5 European long distance footpath from Lake Geneva to Nice.

The route traverses the French Alps all the way to the Mediterranean coast and Edric will walk alone and unsupported for the entire walk.

He will raise money for the Pets Aid League and Riding for the Disabled – two charities that the practice is supporting this year.

Edric said: "Each year at Arg Beiyn we choose two charities to support raising money in different ways throughout the 12 months. This year I wanted to set a personal challenge which would be really tough and if it can help these two charities which I have long admired all the better."

Edric will average around 20 miles per day and will carry his own food and camping equipment.

Sponsor forms are available at the Onchan, Ramsey and Peel branches of Arg Beiyn and there is also the possibility of winning a prize by guessing the actual mileage he will walk in the 21 days.
