Sidecar push to raise money for Rebecca House Hospice

by isleofman.com 20th May 2011

A SIDECAR push to raise money for the Island's children's hospice Rebecca House will take place tomorrow.

Teams of volunteers will push a 150 kilogram sidecar around the TT course – starting from the Grandstand in Douglas at 8am and finishing at the Sure shop in Strand Street.

The 38 mile course has been split into 12 three mile legs and teams taking part include Sure, the TT Marshal's Association, Dandara and Ramsey and Vagabonds Rugby Clubs.

As well as raising money for the charity the push is also designed to help recruit volunteer marshals for this year's TT Races.

Terry Holmes, chairman of the TT Marshal's Association, said: "We hope to raise even more awareness this year with the ultimate challenge of a sidecar push around the entire course.

"The practices and races cannot go ahead without at least 500 marshals so it’s really important that we have this support.

"Anyone can sign up to be a volunteer marshal for the TT and it's easy to register. For more information or to sign up come and see us at one of the Sure shops on Saturday, May 21."

The teams that are taking part will contribute to the charity and Hospice collection buckets will be available for donations at different points on the course throughout the day.

Rose Dahlan, PR and marketing manager at Sure, said: "As established sponsors of the TT Sidecar race we wanted to do something to show that we are really committed to supporting the event which brings so much excitement to the community.

"Last year's push was so much fun and we raised a lot of money for a good cause so we decided to make it even more challenging this year and to get more local people and businesses involved.

"We hope to be able to really make a difference at Rebecca House while also raising awareness for the TT Marshal's Association."

For more information on becoming a TT Marshal drop into the Sure shop in Ramsey or Douglas tomorrow (Saturday) or visit www.iomtta.com.
