Advice for government on laying off staff

A union leader claims the Manx government has much to learn from the private sector when it comes to making people redundant.

Steve Salter of Unite was speaking after a Tynwald debate this week during which the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure came in for sharp criticism for the way it laid off steam railway workers.

Mr Salter says he is grateful the issue was aired in the court as those affected by the redundancies felt they had been treated harshly.

He believes the government should look to the way finance sector companies treat their staff:
