Gubay against Old Trafford plans

by isleofman.com 19th May 2011

Isle of Man-based businessman Albert Gubay is opposing plans to redevelop the Old Trafford ground of Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Mr Gubay's firm Derwent Holdings, which owns the nearby White City retail park, is seeking to appeal against the scheme.

Earlier this year, the High Court rejected Derwent's application for a judicial review of the planning permission, but the developer has been granted leave to go to the Court of Appeal.

The club has already begun a revamp of the ground, in order to avoid losing a ?5.2 million grant from the North West Development Agency.

Mr Gubay is accusing Trafford Council of double standards for allowing a Tesco store to be built as part of the cricket club's scheme, while turning down his own application for a Sainsbury store at White City.
