Isle of Man Walking Festival - Day Two report

by isleofman.com 17th May 2011

MUCH improved weather made today’s second leg of the Isle of Man Walking Festival a much more enjoyable occasion - and the forecast is for decent weather for most of the rest of the week.

“We’ve had very positive reports back from all the six groups taking part today,” said Mick Salmon, festival organiser. “We’ve also had lots of very good comments about the entertainment we provided last night at the Villa Marina too, so it’s good news all round.”

This year’s record-breaking festival has attracted more walkers to the Isle of Man than ever before with 225 taking part in six days of walking around the Island’s paths, glens, hills and country lanes.

There is a choice between some quite tough walks, covering steep climbs over rugged hills, to less challenging routes through picturesque glens and valleys.

Many of the Island’s heritage sites are also included in the routes, taking walkers to interesting places such as Tynwald Hill, Peel Castle and Rushen Abbey.

And for the experienced walkers there is the challenging Coastal Path route which has a group of 20 who will have covered the entire 90 miles distance around the stunning scenery of the Raad ny Foillan by Friday afternoon.

The routes tomorrow are covered in a separate article on isleofman.com
