THE Isle of Man Walking Festival continues tomorrow (Wednesday) with the third day of walking various routes around the Island. Weather conditions have improved considerably since Monday’s downpour and the forecast for the remainder of the week is much better.
There are six walks tomorrow.
• Laxey - Snaefell MInes - Laxey (8.2 miles): Starting with a walk from Laxey village up the valley to the mines and then up to and along the ridge to Slieau Lhean and back into Laxey via King Orry’s Grave.
• Ballaugh - Slieau Dhoo (10.8 miles): A scenic walk across hill paths and to the top of Slieau Freoghane before going back to Ballaugh and a beer in the Raven pub!
• Peel Heritage Trail - Tynwald (8.8 miles): A varied walk along the old railway track to St John’s and Tynwald Hill before taking a route back to Peel via Lhergydhoo and the west coast.
• Smeale - The Ayres (8.1 miles): Hosted by the famous John ‘Dog’ Callister, this is a flat walk along a picturesque route which is perfect for seeing wildlife and then back through country lanes to Bride village.
• Groudle Glen - Baldrine (5.5 miles): A nice walk which includes glens and coastal paths as well as a visit to a very old church with ancient Celtic crosses. Then on to Garwick Glen and through Baldrine to the Liverpool Arms pub.
• Woodlands and Glens (4 miles): Starting in Glen Wyllin, the walk moves to the hills and then to Glen Mooar and Spooyt Vane which at this time of year has a fabulous display of bluebells.
Walkers on the Coastal Path Walk will follow the coast north from Glen Maye, into Peel and then out towards the Island’s biggest expanse of sandy beaches from Glen Mooar onwards. Lunch is in Kirk Michael.
The social event tomorrow evening at the Villa Marina Promenade Suite is the “Free Tenners”(a.k.a. the Lhon Dhoo Male Voice Choir) starting at 7.30pm.
