Judicial selection panel is 'appropriate'

Chief Minister Tony Brown says he's satisfied the make-up of the selection panel for deemsters is fit for purpose.

The issue was raised in Tynwald today (Tuesday) by East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw, who wanted to know if Mr Brown thought there was sufficient separation between the political and judicial processes.

Mr Brown told the court he was happy with the current set-up, which the United Kingdom's Ministry of Justice had confirmed as being adequately independent of political interference.

He was also at pains to point out what the panel could actually do:
